In December 2002, Supertyphoon Pongsona caused island-wide
devastation on Guam. APEC immediately mobilized its
HAZWOPER-trained field personnel and responded to the crisis by
performing hazardous and non-hazardous debris removal and disposal in
compliance with FEMA and the US Army Corps of Engineers
requirements. APEC also fielded and managed work crews for the
emergency repair of heavily damaged hotels in Guam's vital tourist
district of Tumon. APEC personnel remain trained, certified, and on-call
for the following disaster-related duties:
